Recorded at 1080p, 29.97fps, Output to Pro Res HQ
With all the discussion around the net regarding the video and the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, I have spent some time filming in and around Weymouth, Dorset to try and obtain the best possible results. 4K is a pain only with regards to the file sizes, editing is easy when you use proxies to speed up previews on the timeline and the quality is superb. This is 1080…straight out of camera and edited:
In order for me to try and get the best possible footage from the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV at 1080p, I output to the Atomos Ninja Flame at Pro Res HQ. Obviously this created a huge file but I was keen to see what the quality would be like and whether it would be good enough for stock video.
Once the file had been rendered to MP4, the 1m 08s clip ended up being 819mb.
It was then uploaded to Pond 5 video stock agency and within a couple of weeks it had been accepted: Weymouth Harbour Bridge Opening.
Whether or not it eventually sells is another matter but for now, I am just happy that the quality is where it should be. My only gripe is that I focussed on the boat in the foreground so the background may seem a “touch” soft.
