Did you ever go on a trip (with or without your camera) and since arriving back home, you can’t stop thinking about that country or city? You MUST have.
Like, it’s just stuck “in” you and won’t budge. And actually, you secretly hope your next visit is coming soon….
Well, a few years back, I lived in Korea for around two years doing the ‘teaching English abroad’ thing combined with some epic Asian travel. An experience I won’t forget in a hurry. Who would?
Back then in my twenties, living the rat-race dream in my local town was not quite living up to anything at all. Paying the bills and driving to work in bad tail-gaiting traffic was life, five days per week.
Turns out, this is common…aka what people call “life” and my office job sucked, big time.
But, have you ever stopped and wondered why? Why are you going through life on auto? Hmm, interesting. There’s gotta be more – there’s definitely more to what we’re put here to achieve.
Why the Random Story?
I appreciate being at risk of sounding naive here as everyone (including myself) has responsibilities – some literally tie you down, but sometimes you really need to shake things up a little from the norm – something we should all strive for in our photography.
If you’re a landscape shooter, take your camera to the streets, just have a go – at least then you’ve tried it?
In fact, it was this trip that catalyzed my passion for photography. I bought my first DSLR a week before boarding the plane with my 45lb bag and off we went, first stop: Seoul.
South Korea – A Photographer’s Dream Destination
Here’s a selection of images from parts of my trip there to have a look over and see whether or not you feel any inspiration to visit somewhere totally new or just a little outside of your comfort zone!
Here’s a very small sample of what I captured upon starting my journey into photography….
Traveling the length of the country meant I was constantly uploading images to my laptop every other weekend. My ethos at the time was to carry my camera with me at all times, even my iPhone – if I missed an opportunity, I’d end up kicking myself!
