When Canon Rumors first reported the in-development Canon EOS 7D MARK III in July 2017, the publication expected a debut for the device (or, at the very least, a product announcement) at the CP+ Trade Show in February 2018.

Now Canon Rumors is reporting a rumored spec list for the Canon EOS 7D MARK III though there is still no confirmation of the exact timing of the new camera’s official debut or market arrival.

The Canon EOS 7D Mark III technical specifications as detailed by Canon Rumors are as follows:

  • – 30MP sensor
  • – 4K video/30p 1.4x
  • – 12 fps
  • – No AA filter
  • – 1D X Mark II focusing
  • – Tilting touch screen
  • – CFast/SD
  • – Built-in Wi-Fi
  • – Price around $2,000

There is reason to be skeptical about the above list.

As several readers of the website and members of the Canon Rumors forums have highlighted, there are a number of issues with the above spec list, such that Canon Rumors says, “I’ll be treating the above as a wishlist until I can confirm otherwise.”

Among those issues are that the 30mp at 12fps “would be much greater throughput than both the [current] EOS-1D X Mark II and EOS 5D Mark IV.” That would be quite a technical advancement, if true. Readers wondered whether “dual DIGIC 7 processors [could] handle this?”

In addition, there is “No AA filter on a camera very targeted at birders,” highlighting the issues bird photographers may face using the Canon EOS 7D MARK III with the above spec list.

Also the need for multiple memory cards, 3 different types, could be cumbersome but is something nonetheless “quite common with the EOS 7D Mark II.”

Lastly, Canon Rumors “think 30mp is way too high for an APS-C sensor unless Canon has made great strides in lowering noise. We think a crop for 4K recording on an APS-C sensor would drive videographers crazy.”

The Canon EOS 7D MARK III is the successor to the Canon EOS 7D Mark II, a pro-grade digital single-lens reflex camera. The Canon EOS 7D Mark II features a: “20.2 effective megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, Full HD video recording at 60 fps, 10.0 frames per second continuous shooting, a 100% accuracy viewfinder which offers 1× magnification…, a 65-point auto-focus system, a built-in Speedlite transmitter and a new 150k RGB pixels + IR metering sensor.”
