Using the ball-and-socket implementation of the GorillaPod, the new Mobile Rig has use as a handle, tripod, or even wrapped around poles or frames with a secure mount for a smartphone as well as two six-socket arms “for attaching the standard ¼”-20 tripod connections or cold shoe mounts” according to the Phoblographer.
Where the user mounts the smartphone there is another cold-shoe mount that gives the option of shooting in either landscape or portrait orientation. This setup allows for use with a microphone, lights, and other devices.
What the tool really brings to the market is the ability to make even higher quality videos and content at less of a cost in equipment expenses.
The world of social media video and photography is competitive and filled to the brim with talent, but not everyone has access to expensive mobile rigs to shoot that next level video or that crazy angle shot. And just as accessible as the original GorillaPod was for content creators, the new Mobile Rig promises the same level of ease of use so consumers familiar with one device should have no trouble starting to use the latest JOBY product.
