When it comes to the possible applications for unmanned aerial vehicles, popularly referred to as drones, literally the sky is the limit.
DJI is taking this to heart with its new Zenmuse XT2 which is equipped with a camera capable of helping out in search and rescue missions.
How does the new Zenmuse XT2 camera do this exactly?
Well, for starters, it can measure heat using a thermal imaging camera. That’s right – DJI’s latest drone can see where people are if they are trapped in a building or some other situation where you would need to identify exactly where people are in a given space.
While the new DJI Zenmuse XT2 will also have applications in agriculture, construction, and industry, the thermal imaging camera has people excited about the drone’s potential to save lives.
Jan Gasparic, Head of Enterprise Partnerships at DJI was quoted by Digital Rev as saying, “The Zenmuse XT2 continues our longstanding partnership with FLIR to create the most powerful thermal imaging solution available on a drone today. This is a significant advancement for public safety professionals who are using drones to save lives and creating new industrial applications across different verticals.”
The new Zenmuse XT2’s camera is not only capable of thermal imaging but it can also track an object and also, using DJI’s Spotlight Pro Feature, can choose the safest flight path in a given situation. The two intelligent flight modes, Quick Track and Heat Track, center the drone on a selected area and find the hottest object in an area respectively.
The new Zenmuse is compatible with Matrice 200 Series and Matrice 600 drones and has “thermal sensor resolutions (640 x 512 or 336 x 256), with 9mm, 13mm, 19mm, and 25mm lens options” according to Digital Rev.
