New Canon EOS R Mirrorless Specs

Canon joins the fray as the mirrorless EOS R specs and RF lenses have leaked ahead of the camera’s official premier September 5, tomorrow.

These specs come as a bit of a surprise as PetaPixel notes that Canon prides itself on a high-level of secrecy surrounding new and unannounced products. We know more than a few companies that have made that their modus operandi and with good results if you think secrecy and exclusivity offer benefits for new kit.

But after reports started creeping up on Nokishita and Canon Rumors, the cat was literally out of the bag at that point.

Sporting a 30.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor with Dual Pixel AF, the new Canon EOS R will also have “AF coverage (100% vertical and 88% horizontal), EV -6 low light autofocus, 4K video recording, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a mic jack, a headphone jack, a dustproof and drip-proof magnesium body” according to PetaPixel.

All of this will be powered by a LP-E6N battery.

The back of the Canon EOS R will also have an articulating screen and an information display on top.

Coming in at 580g (1.28lbs) and measuring 136x98m (5.35×3.86in), the new Canon EOS R is in line with comparable units from competitors.

Best of all for photographers who have already bought into the Canon lens ecosystem, the EOS R will be compatible with EF lenses through multiple mount options including a “standard EF-EOS R mount adapter, a control ring mount adapter, and a drop-in filter mount adapter.”

The RF lenses for their part come in four initial variants, the 35mm f/1.8 M IS, 50mm f/1.2L, 28-70mm f/2L, and 24-105mm f/4L.

Of course official word about accessories and other specifications have yet to be revealed but we expect to have all kinds of information in that regard when the camera makes its first official appearance tomorrow.

Let's block ads! (Why?)

The lens in focus

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
