It’s dark out there.
So you might be wondering what, exactly, if anything NASA would want to show off using 8K video from outer space.

Thankfully, the first 8K video shot in space comes from the interior of the International Space Station.
And, in a nod to the current zeitgeist, it made its debut on the government agency’s YouTube channel.
How’s that for user-generated content?
While only three minutes in length, the video nonetheless gives viewers a glimpse of life on the ISS to reveal “the in-space experience and see how the international partnership-powered human spaceflight is improving lives on Earth, while enabling humanity to explore the universe.”
A partnership among many nations, the ISS is very active on social media and the Internet, regularly providing followers with new content. For its latest video, NASA extended a particular thanks to the European Space Agency, the ISS National Lab, and astronauts Alexander Gerst, Serena Auñón-Chancellor, Ricky Arnold and Drew Feustel according to DPReview.
Among shots of experiments and other tasks undertaken on the ISS are the occasional glimpses of the Nikon D5 cameras that we told you about some articles back. Viewing the video in its full 8K glory requires either the Google Chrome browser or you can download the 3GB video directly for local play. It probably goes without saying that you will need a display capable of handling 8K video in order to watch it.
