Well, this next story is no joke.
And what timing on Fuji’s part.
Reports indicate that the film manufacturer is planning on a huge price cut beginning April 1st.
That’s April Fool’s Day and, traditionally, a holiday for practical jokes and pranks.
But this is totally real and really sucks for some of us.
There is one silver lining to all of this: Fans of Fuji’s Instax line won’t face price hikes.
As for everything else in the lineup?
PetaPixel reports that prices could go up by as much as 30%, impacting product lines such as Fujicolor negatives, slide films, control strips, and Fuij Quick Snap disposable cameras.
Photographic papers will also see a price increase though it won’t be as dramatic as the rest of the materials. The company didn’t release exact numbers for the price increase but hinted it would be a minimum of 10% or greater.
The rising prices of manufacturing account for a lot of the increase according to the company.
In a presser addressing the dismal news, Fuji wrote: ““Fujifilm has always provided the highest quality products to the global market…Over the past several years, Fujifilm has faced the rising cost of raw materials and logistics. …In the past Fujifilm has absorbed some of the costs by undertaking intensive structural reforms and communalization of production facilities, but as a responsible manufacturing company and to provide the high-quality products our customers expect, the company will institute a price increase.”
One advantage to getting this news now is that you can stock up on Fuji product before the price increase takes hold.
Another aspect to consider is how rare it is for major manufacturers to make anything physical these days. So, kudos to Fuji for sticking it out, even if they are sticking it to us a little.
