Canon ditched the 24p mode in some of its DSLR and mirrorless cameras and, needless to say, it didn’t go over well with a small but vocal segment of their fandom.

That is understandable, really, because people hate it when you take away options – especially when it doesn’t see to be for any real reason other than “just because.”
Well, the company is backtracking on that decision and is adding 24p back into some of its models in response to consumer demand.
Videographers, in particular, are impacted by this arbitrary change which removed 24p from models such as Canon EOS M6 Mark II, Canon EOS RP, and the Canon EOS 90D according to PetaPixel.
To bring back the 24p mode, the company will be releasing a series of firmware updates to add the functionality to cameras where it is missing.
A press release from the company reads in part, “Once downloaded, the free firmware updates will enable users to shoot 24p (23.98fps) in Full HD and 4K resolutions for the select models. …Canon is committed to providing a diverse and full line-up of products to cater for all capabilities and interests by listening to our customers feedback and providing enhancements accordingly.”
The functionality won’t hit all models at once but will gradually roll out with some starting this month for the EOS 90D and EOS RP which will be followed up by the G7 X Mark III and G5 X Mark II in December of this year. The EOS M6 Mark II should get the updated firmware sometime in the first quarter of 2020.
