DJI Possibly Making RC Car for Action Cams

More than a few of us will be getting DJI gifts this holiday season and, by this time next year, we could have some cool new accessories to use.

At least that’s if these recent patent filings in China prove to be more than just dreams on paper.

The world’s biggest consumer drone manufacturer is bringing a new option to its action cam enthusiasts in the near future that can best be described as an RC racing car mount.

Of course, this isn’t a completely novel idea but DJI’s entry into this space is. The company will be competing with products like the Freefly TERO.

A patent filing in China for the device describes it as basically the same in structure and format as the popular toy cars but with an interesting 360-degree of movement feature for what we can only imagine would be some truly epic shots.

The racing car also has a suspension system that adjusts as the car drives along uneven surfaces to keep the video as stable and clear as possible. While it might not make immediate sense for the drone maker to get into this segment of the action camera market, the potential for synergies with its drones cannot be denied. We imagine some truly pioneering drone pilots and videographers will make amazing use of the RC car should it make it to market.

Aside from this exciting product schematic, PetaPixel reports that DJI also filed paperwork for its much-anticipated all-in-one gimbal. The plans for that product seem to rely upon DJI’s own cameras rather than a third-party system as some people had expected.

What do you think? Does this sound like something you would like to see from DJI? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

The lens in focus

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
