Elle Mexico Uses Drone to Shoot Cover and Photo Feature in the Age of the Pandemic

We have actors taking photos of themselves for covers and spreads and now we have photographers using drones doing the same for Elle Mexico. While the COVID-19 pandemic has made life harder for all of us, it certainly hasn’t stopped some among us from innovating to get the job done.

Renowned photographer Santiago Arau used a drone to shoot Mariana Zaragoza for Elle’s latest issue in Mexico.

Because of social distancing guidelines, a full-on fashion shoot was impossible.

But using a drone allowed Arau to maintain an appropriate distance from the subject who used her own home in Guadalajara as a backdrop.

For her clothing, Zaragoza followed the directions of stylist Raúl Alvarez as she had to handle her own hair and makeup for the shoot.

Of the process, Editor in Chief of Elle Mexico Claudia Candano said, “We believe that as media we cannot remain silent in the face of this situation, but we also know that we all want to be entertained. It’s up to us to turn it around. For this reason we wanted to make a cover that could preserve the essence of fashion while taking up the challenge of respecting the distance measures.”

If you missed it, we covered how actor Robert Pattinson used a Nikon DSLR to shoot his own cover and feature for GQ in order to adhere to the lockdown rules in the US.

The lens in focus

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
