The novel coronavirus has led to the closing of several things we normally take for granted.

And when Nikon decided to stop taking mail-in service requests due to the outbreak, it was kind of a big deal for the community.
After all, some of us depend on our Nikon camera(s) to make a living. If you don’t have a center nearby, this is a really big inconvenience.
But it looks like things are starting to get back to normal, at least some version of it. Nikon is taking mail-in service requests again but tentatively as the company has to keep its options open in case of a second wave.
The notice from Nikon reads, “In compliance with local mandates, we are able to resume operations at our service facilities. Repair services are now available for mail-in customers at our repair facilities. Walk-in/counter services are not available at this time, pending the installation of measures to insure [sic] the safety of our customers and employees.”
While the coronavirus has brought things to a standstill for the past several months, it hasn’t stopped the camera industry from contributing in its own way.
As we’ve reported, Canon and Fujifilm are two of the most active participants in the fight against the virus. Fuji’s efforts to get its Avigan drug approved for use as a coronavirus treatment method has even led to political turmoil within Japan itself, as we covered here.
