London’s Nikon School Closes Its Doors, Moves to Online Instruction

London’s Nikon School is closing its doors and moving to an online format moving forward, the school recently announced.

This isn’t surprising as many educational institutions grapple with the COVID-19 reality that has changed the in-person class model in the immediate term and perhaps forever.

One of the major positives of this move is that it gives people from around the globe the chance to take advantage of the school’s amazing course offerings.

Naturally, Nikon isn’t the only school looking at shifting its operations online. With no end in sight for measures such as social distancing, many institutions are trying to rethink what instruction means in this new era. Sure, moving online opens it up to more people but that transition comes with its own baggage. For one, selling people on the experience as being on par with in-person instruction might be the biggest hurdle for some potential students. What we trade in terms of exclusive, one-on-one instruction we receive in return the option to take courses and interact with some of the biggest minds in the field. For some people, that is well worth it.

A statement from the Nikon’s Head of Marketing for Northern Europe, Julian Harvie, read:

“As Nikon’s community understands only too well, photography is about the creative interpretation of the world around us. We no longer require a physical classroom to educate and inspire when there is so much out there we want to capture.”

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
