Panasonic Reveals the New Full-Frame LUMIX S5

The wait is over for Panasonic’s long-anticipated full-frame LUMIX S5.

And it looks like this camera is going out of its way to meet press and consumer expectations with more features and upgrades than we thought were coming.

The 24.2-megapixel camera takes a bit of inspiration from Panasonic’s other models but in a smaller form factor.

Featuring five-axis IBIS, FStoppers reports that LUMIX S5 owners can use “O.I.S. S Series lenses to compensate 6.5 stops.”

The LUMIX S5 has internal recording going to 4K 60p in 10-bit 4:2:0 as well as 4K 30p 10-bit 4:2:2. A 4K 30p 8-bit 4:2:0 mode removes the time limitation on recording in 4K. HDMI cables give you 4K 60p 10-bit 4:2:2 output and Full HD at 1080p comes in at 60p 10-bit 4:2:2. Using the LUMIX S5’s “Slow & Quick” mode, users can achieve 1080p video at 180 fps on a 24p timeline for 7.5x slow-motion video, FStoppers reports.

The camera also has 14-plus stops of dynamic range, V-Log and V-Gamut compatibility, 4:3 Anamorphic mode, interval shooting, and 4K HDR.

UHD 4K60 Video,10-Bit Internal Recording
V-Log, HDR, and Dual Native ISO
2.36m-Dot 0.74x-Magnification OLED LVF
3.0″ 1.84m-Dot Free-Angle Touchscreen
Contrast-Detect 225-Area DFD AF System
5-Axis Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization
ISO 100-51200, Up to 7 fps Shooting
96MP High-Res Mode, Dual SD Card Slots

As far as pricing is concerned, we’re looking at $USD 1,997.99 with a mid-September ship date for the camera.

The lens in focus

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
