The frenzied November-December shopping season is nearly upon us and for Nikon this looks like a great opportunity to sell more D850s.
And to incentivize just that the company is knocking $USD 500 off of the price of the model.
That’s the cheapest this full-frame DSLR has ever been, as PetaPixel points out, and could make it an enticing buy for people shopping for a bargain.
Even so, it’s still pretty expensive. At $USD 2,500, the D850 is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Plus, there are some features that modern users might want that the D850 is conspicuously lacking (video autofocus).
For those of you that might have forgotten, here are the specs for the D850:
Effective Pixels (Megapixels)45.7 million
Sensor Size35.9 mm x 23.9 mm
Image Sensor FormatFX Full-Frame (1.0x Crop Factor)
Image Sensor Type CMOS, 35.9 x 23.9 mmPixelsActual: 46.89 Megapixel
Effective: 45.7 Megapixel
Dust-Reduction SystemImage sensor cleaning
Image Dust Off reference data (optional Capture NX-D software required)
Max Image Area (pixels) 8,256 x 5,504
PetaPixel is also reporting that a potential successor to the D850 could arrive as early as next year. Whether or not you want to wait around for the next iteration of the D850 (some are calling this “future model” the D880) is probably up to your individual tastes and preferences but Nikon is hoping to make it a little more difficult to stay on the fence if you’ve considered purchasing a D850 but were put off by its price.
Would a $USD 500 price drop make you give the D850 another look? Do you already own one? Let us know your thoughts on Nikon’s price drop in the comments section below if you like.
