Nikon hasn’t had the best press lately. Like many companies, 2020 is proving to be a challenging year for them. But that doesn’t mean the company isn’t going to try its best to change that tune even though 2020 itself is pretty much a written story at this point.
One bright note, the upcoming release of the Z7 II in December, is being overshadowed by reports that paint nothing less than a company in crisis.
Even so, Nikon is releasing not one but two new DSLR cameras next year along with a bevy of F-Mount lenses, PetaPixel reports, in what could be interpreted as a show of confidence in the consumer market – or as a desperate maneuver to cling to DSLR, depending on how you interpret it.
Citing a post by the ever-reliable Nikon Rumors, 2021 will also see the release of no less than 8 new Z-Mount lenses. These include 2 “macro lenses at the 60mm and 105mm focal lengths” as well as an “upcoming 100-400mm lens.”
Interestingly, the report also states that DSLR cameras continue to outsell Nikon’s mirrorless offerings.
As we reported yesterday, “It seems the prestigious Japanese company is facing a particularly dire 2020 as consumer camera sales have collapsed and as it posts a 40% drop in sales for the coming quarter many are beginning to question Nikon’s past choices, namely its reluctance to get into the mirrorless market in order to protect DSLR (giving Sony a huge advantage).”
