One of the bigger stories this year in the photography world was the departure of Olympus from the scene.
A longstanding fixture in consumer cameras, the company’s spin-off of its optical division to JIP was somewhat disappointing for many of its fans.
In the meantime, both the new Olympus and JIP company has tried its best to allay fears as to what will happen to their beloved brand.
A recent interview conducted by Maptimes with Olympus engineer Hiroshi Suzuki shed some light on the subject.
To start, it looks like the new company will focus on the video and telephoto segments of the industry.
Part of the company’s strategy for achieving this will include a renewed focus on micro four thirds.
“The Micro Four Thirds system is the only mount system that realizes small size, light weight and high image quality at a high level.”
Suzuki also added, “I think that the features of the Micro Four Thirds system are the overwhelming system mobility in the telephoto system.”
The new company also plans on continuing the OMD, PEN, and ZUIKO-branded products in the future.
On that note, Suzuki commented, “We sincerely apologize for causing concern and anxiety to many customers since the announcement of the transfer of our video business. However, as the representative of our company sends, we do not withdraw from the video business. We will continue to provide products, services and solutions to our customers, so please feel free to use them.”
