Cat Filter During Court Session Becomes Latest Viral Zoom Flub

More people are finding themselves navigating the pitfalls of online meetings, not the least of which is the appearance of filters where they probably shouldn’t be.

We’ve reported on some of these in the past and they never cease to provide some amusement. But they also give us some insight into just how much things like this have made their way into popular culture. And, on top of that, it isn’t a localized but rather a global phenomenon.

While this isn’t on the level of appearing in a key government meeting with a filter active, it’s pretty close.

A lawyer in Texas, Rod Ponton, was attending a civil forfeiture Zoom session when he appeared to other meeting attendees as a cat, having left that filter active. So, what we assume would normally be a rather staid and dry affair was instead transformed by no less than a gigantic weeping kitten’s face pleading his case to the judge. At one point the lawyer even had to tell the judge that he was not, in fact, a gigantic weeping kitten.

The judge told the lawyer, “Mr. Ponton, I believe you have a filter turned on in the video settings.”

“I don’t know how to remove it. I’ve got my assistant here and she’s trying to. I’m prepared to go forward with it,” the lawyer responded, adding, “I’m here live. I’m not a cat.”

You can watch a YouTube video of the interaction here.

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
