Rumors Indicate iPhone 14 Could Have 48MP Sensor

It looks like some original designs of the upcoming iPhone 13 have leaked.

But that’s not all: We’re also getting a rough sketch of the successor to that as-yet-unannounced phone in the form of iPhone 14 rumors.

So, let’s start with the iPhone 13 which could be sporting a significantly thicker form factor thanks to an enlarged camera bump, PetaPixel reports. This is allegedly being used to incorporate a bigger LiDAR sensor.

EverythingApplePro has obtained what appear to be CAD drawings of the new phone that show it 3.33% thicker than the iPhone 12 due to a more pronounced camera bump at 3.65mm as opposed to 2.78mm. Additionally, the CAD drawings reveal a device that is 3.38mm taller and 4.77mm wider.

They even release a YouTube video thoroughly explaining it all.

As far as the 48MP sensor goes, Mac Rumors cited a recent report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who wrote:

“In terms of pixel size, the ‌iPhone 12‌, iPhone 13, and new 2H22 ‌iPhone‌ are about 1.7um, 2um, and 1.25um, respectively. We believe that the new 2H22 ‌iPhone‌ may support direct 48MP output and 12MP (four cells merge output mode) output simultaneously. With 12MP output, the CIS pixel size of the new 2H22 ‌iPhone‌ increases to about 2.5um, which is significantly larger than the ‌iPhone 12‌ and ‌iPhone 13‌, and larger than existing Android phones, and close to the DSC level. We believe that the camera quality of the new 2H22 ‌iPhone‌ will elevate mobile phone camera photography to a new level.”

Down the road in 2023, analysts also expect Apple to make use of its periscope telephoto lens patent detailed some time ago as well as introduce 8K video capabilities.
