Generative AI Images Now Available on the Google Search Bar

Artificial intelligence has made its way to your Google search bar with an update from Alphabet that integrates the fast-growing technology into the world’s most used tool for scouring the Internet for content.

In order to make use of this feature, users need to opt-in to Google’s Labs and Generative Experience (SGE), Engadget reports, noting that SGE is what Google is calling its “web searching future” project.

Outside of that, the tool works pretty much as expected and similarly to rivals that we wrote about in past articles.

But for those who are unfamiliar with this emergent tech, it basically works using an interpretation of a user’s input in order to generate a corresponding output. To get to this point, these systems are trained on iterations of the above in order to best approximate what a user might want to see. For example, if the user inputs “zebra,” the AI generator will use the many trained iterations it has on this text to display the image it thinks is relevant. Of course, users can enter more complicated text descriptions, creating entire scenes via text commands.

Engadget goes on to report that Google’s feature will also let users search their generated images using Google Lens to approximate real-world products for sale that were “imagined” in the image. If that’s not the next level, we don’t know what is.

Following in the steps of many rival platforms, the Google AI image creator is going to shy away from photorealism and won’t let you create images of notable people doing questionable things if at all. If you want to give all of this a try, it is currently available on Android and iOS platforms on the Google app via the “flask” icon and to some Chrome users with an expanded rollout over the coming weeks.

The lens in focus

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
