The next stage in Apple’s ongoing transformation of modern media comes out on February 2nd and for a little bit less than we initially thought it would be.
Don’t get us wrong – it’s still wicked expensive.
Yet, at $USD 3200, it’s way more accessible than the initial speculation that swarmed around a $USD 5000 plus price point.
But whether it is worth it will largely be in the eye of the beholder. We’re certain this thing is going to sell like wild however no one knows whether or not this thing is the next iPhone which, if it is, means we’re on the cusp of a massive seachange once again.
From Apple’s blog post on the Vision Pro’s release date:
“Users can also immerse themselves in Environments — dynamic, beautiful landscapes like Haleakalā, Joshua Tree, and Yosemite national parks, and even the surface of the moon — to help them focus or reduce clutter in busy spaces. With Environments, a user’s world can grow beyond the dimensions of a physical room. With a twist of the Digital Crown, users can control how present or immersed they are in an environment.”
In other words, it’s going to be a fully wearable, immersive, super smartphone-esque experience. Again, arguments either way as far as whether or not this will take off are fair game at this point. Hype aside, however, this would be pretty darn cool to have at scale – especially for people who specialize in creating digital media.
The Vision Pro will launch with its own OS, app store, and launch apps including Minecraft 365 and even Slack, underscoring how Apple is positioning this device as being multipurpose including entertainment and productivity.
