The DJI Mavic Pro 2 Debuts

How do you follow up a market hit?

If you’re consumer drone manufacturer DJI, you simply make a sequel.

Meet the DJI Mavic 2 Pro – an update to the Mavic Pro that debuted in 2016 and has gone on to become an industry standard since.

And DJI is bringing not just one but two new models to market just in time for the winter shopping season.

Meet the Mavic 2 Pro and the Mavic 2 Zoom. In addition to the new models, DJI is updating the original Mavic Pro as well.

One of the biggest things about the Mavic 2 Pro that has people raving is its include of a 20MP Hasselblad camera with a 1 inch sensor with an adjustable aperture (f/2.8-f/11), 14 stops of dynamic range, and Hasselblad's Natural Color Solution (HNCS) technology according to FStoppers.

In a nod to the videography community, the new DJI Mavic 2 Pro will capture video in H.264 and H.265 at up to 100 Mb/s in full 4K UHD. A lot of the capabilities, including improved color range and aerial shooting capabilities, has the community raving about the possibilities available to creators that the DJI Mavic 2 Pro offers over the older model. Best of yet, it will be selling at a retail price of $USD 1,499, making it a competitive offering in the marketplace.

The second new model debuting, the Mavic 2 Zoom will sport an optical zoom of 24mm-48mm and digital zoom up to to 96mm. The sensor is the same size as the Mavic Pro but, even though it is limited to 12 MP like the Pro, the Mavic 2 Zoom has technology that allows for the camera to stitch together pictures using optical zoom for a 48MP equivalent in what DJI calls “Super Resolution.”

The Mavic 2 Zoom will retail for a price of $USD 1,249.

Specs for the Mavic 2 Pro are improved across the board with better collision detection, a better gimbal, 8GB of onboard memory, a motor capable of going up to 44 mph and a flight time of 31 minutes.

A big update that comes to the Mavic 2 Pro controller is DJI’s OcuSync that allows the pilot to see what the drone sees at a range of up to 4.97 miles.

The lens in focus

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
