Instagram Issues Host of Changes to Make Follower Management Easier

Instagram is going even further with its crowd management options it started introducing in earnest earlier this year.

Now the world’s foremost photography platform will give its users the ability to control commenting to a greater extent than ever before as well as the option to ban mentions and disable tags.

The commenting, in particular, has many social media managers thanking their lucky stars as it allows for batch deleting of comments which makes the process of audience feedback curation that much easier.

Another interesting feature that Instagram introduced, and one we think will go a long way towards combating negativity on the platform, is “pinned comments.” This allows the user to select the best comments to be presented first. In addition to being able to bulk delete comments, there are also easier ways to block users from seeing your account. It’ll be interesting to see if any of these changes make their way over to Facebook.

All of this is part of Instagram’s push to make its platform free from “bullying” but these changes also have some features that corporate users can appreciate as well.

The “pinned comment” feature, in particular, could end up drowning out negative users and subvert the need to block them or delete their comments in the first place. How this changes user behavior on the platform should be something to watch over the coming months.

What do you think of Instagram’s new features? How do you feel about commenting on the Internet in general? A website necessity or a potential place for trolls and abusive behavior? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below if you like.

The lens in focus

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
