Canon Testing Out 90MP Sensor EOS R5

You know how much we love new gear and rumors. When we can combine them, it’s especially heartwarming.

Well, today we’ve got something pretty good for you and it starts with a question: Is Canon testing out a 90MP sensor EOS R5? The answer depends on who you ask but the Magic Eight Ball that is photography journalism says “yes,” but with some caveats.

This latest rumor takes speculation a bit further and actually posits that a physical model already exists and is currently out for testing. Coming from none other than ultra-reliable source Canon Rumors, the purported EOS R5 is already in the hands of people out in the wider world.

Canon Rumors reports that “a small group of photographers have the high-megapixel body in their hands as it’s going through the first phase of testing as a finished product.”

One other thing that we seem to know about it is that it is definitely not coming out in 2020. Look for a 2021 release for this camera. On top of that, we don’t really know what kind of pricetag this thing will be wearing but we expect it will be quite expensive given its purported sensor. We can only expect that the rest of the camera will try to live up to that top billing aspect and thus an expensive device is not out of the question.

What do you think of the possibility that Canon is testing out a 90MP EOS R5? Does that sound like something you’d like to see on the market? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
