New Sony Alpha Coming September 14th

We’ve bandied this about for some time but now we have confirmation from none other than Sony themselves.

The new Sony a7C, the first in a new line, will be debuting on September 14th. This new model will be the entry-level unit for the new lineup and Sony is eager to introduce the world to this series.

The cameras will have, among other things, will have the same sensor as Sony’s a7 III (24MP), an articulating screen like the a7S III as well as that camera’s AF features, all in a form factor informed by the a6600 but with EVF, and IBIS. To round it all out we’ve got on SD card slot and 4K/30p video shooting. PetaPixel reports that we can expect all of this for about $USD 2,100.

This information largely confirms our speculations about the new model, which we reported would be “something between Sony a7 III and the a6600 with the body of the camera coming from the a6600 and the sensor and performance of the a7 III. Naturally, built-in headphone jacks, microphone, wifi, Bluetooth, and a USB Type-C slot will accompany the standard list of modern camera features. As for pricing, it is looking like the unit will be about $USD 2,000.”

So far, 2020 is turning out to be a big year for Sony. From spinning off its company to moving aggressively in the market, we’re expecting big things from this new optical-focused corp bearing the legendary name.

The lens in focus

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
