If you have some extra money laying around, and you also happen to be a fan of Ansel Adams, then you might want to mark your calendars for the 14th of December as the famed David H. Arrington Collection of Ansel Adams Masterworks is going up for auction at Sotheby’s.
PetaPixel reports that an early print of Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico could go for as much as $USD 1 million at auction.
Another noteworthy piece is a “mural-sized” gelatin silver print of Grand Tetons and the Snake River, Grand Tetons National Park, Wyoming, 1942, described by Sotheby’s as, “Photographed on commission for the Department of the Interior, this dramatic view of the mountains over Jackson Hole is believed to be one of less than 10 mural-sized prints of this image in existence…[It] is one of Adams’ defining images and is offered here in awe-inspiring scale.”
The auction will be live and online with over 100 works going up on the block.
Sotheby’s VP and Head of the Photographs Department said in a statement about the auction, “The Arrington Collection was assembled with a true passion for the medium and a deep understanding of Adams’ extraordinary seven-decade career…[Mr. Arrington’s] focus on collecting only the most superb prints is apparent when viewing the sumptuous early print of Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico, an unequivocal masterpiece in the history of art that rivals any blue chip painting.”
