A Haunting Beauty – this post is presented here by us at Toad Hollow Photography, featuring an old wooden boat that now lies forgotten and abandoned in the middle of a farmer’s field on Vancouver Island. These shots were captured in the late fall, with the color in the trees adding to the ethereal feel the entire setting.

Johns Barn – Mormon Row Antelope Flats, Wyoming – this is definitely a case where a barn is much more than just a barn, it’s an important part of American history. This photograph by Michael Criswell takes us back to one of the most iconic barns of its kind where Michael’s awesome shot of it is framed in the description of the historic importance of it.

Under Blackfriars Bridge – the terrific arch created by this iron bridge creates a perfect compositional frame into the city that sits in the backdrop in this shot by David Abbs. A walkway in the right part of the picture forges a strong leading line that draws you into the vanishing point in the distance for an added element.

Fum̩e dans la vall̩e РMathias Lucas posts a series of extremely ethereal images in this article, all captured in the early morning as the first light of day streamed through a veil of smoke according to Mathias. This creates a unique mood in the images, one that is mysterious and alluring, sure to be enjoyed by everyone who loves a moody picture.

Celestial light © – a wide shot from Carlos Vazquez exposes the wonderful old architectural features of this building, with great light streaming in through the arches. As the light dances across the stone floor a feeling of the abstract comes to life in this study of light and shape.

Twilight at the beach – as the last vestiges of daylight leave the beach scene Barry Turner visited on this day, a terrific natural leading line in a pathway becomes a strong vanishing point, fenced in on the right side by a row of wood beach outbuildings. The natural colors in the sky are truly amazing, accented perfectly by the blue hour light.

Dettifoss at Sunset – Angela Chong creates a strong shot that features a dramatic waterfall as the prime anchor into the picture. In the distance, gorgeous colors play with the sky and the brooding clouds that linger overhead, accenting the scene as a whole.

Urbex – an abandoned and derelict factory forms the subject for this terrific shot by puppet factory. A row of forgotten machines lines the worn floors, creating a leading line that takes you into the frame where a series of unanswered questions awaits the viewer who enjoys this type of setting.

The Flying Church – Daniel F. delivers an image that features one of my favorite spots, the monastery that sits on the tiny island in the middle of Lake Bled in Slovenia. Swirling clouds encircle this ancient site, adding to the feeling of mystery and wonder that a facility this old creates.

Cows – Ron Niebrugge takes a great portrait photograph of a small family of cows in what looks to be a desert setting. The terrific cows are looking straight back at the camera in this picture, sharing a glimpse of the spirit and personality that they possess.

Wyoming Blue Hour Lightning – tendrils of lightning bolt down from the storm clouds above in this very dramatic landscape shot from Kelly DeLay. To the right of the shot a row of power lines creates a leading line that gently guides us into the distance where the storm meets a warmly colored sun, creating a visual dichotomy that is truly a joy to see.

Open Air Seating – the interior of a long abandoned church forms the prime focus of this incredible photograph by ken fager. Here we find incredible texture and detail in the natural decay from the ravages of time, perfectly finished off by the missing roof that streams in natural light and adds great artistic tension.

Chain Bridge (Budapest) – a wonderful stone bridge spans a river in Budapest in this great photograph from Neil O'Donnell. Beyond the bridge we see the old architecture of this famous city, adding a perfect touch in this strong composition.

Perfect Symmetry – nature never ceases to amaze us all as it creates perfect art through its mechanisms and processes instinctively based on an infinite millennia of being. This shot from LensScaper (Andy Hooker) is a great example of this, focusing on a lone and bare tree in the center of the frame that has nearly perfect symmetry. This is all highlighted by the perfect placement of the sun in the composition to add color and a sense of joy to the shot.

Walk in the woods – I just love bear photographs, these amazing creatures create unique expressions that are truly their own as they go about their lives in their natural habitat. In this shot from JH Atala, a mother and her cub are wandering straight towards the camera, seemingly nonplussed at what is going on as they make their way.

In the Grand Scheme of Things – CJ Schmit creates and delivers a stellar black-and-white image that features the interior space of a long abandoned factory or warehouse. Using a wide angle lens to capture this shot, we get to see the true scale and expanse of this weathered space, with leading lines that create the perfect guide through the frame from the remaining pieces of architecture.

Door to Another Era – a worn red chair sits alongside a set of old wooden doors in this artistic shot captured and shared by Jason Row. Light streaming in from the left part of the frame adds the perfect finishing touch, creating a picture that almost invites you to step into it.

Banks Of The Allegheny – Brad Truxell heads out in the early morning to capture this shot, and as a result he creates this fabulous sunrise picture that takes advantage of the dramatic city’s architecture in the backdrop. The river in the foreground takes on a silky texture from the long exposure time used to shoot this scene, and Brad’s careful post-production brings out the very best of the picture as a whole.

Winter Express – an old steam locomotive makes its way through a snowy landscape in this extremely romantic shot by Alexander Riek. The snow converges with the smoke billowing out of the train, creating a perfect harmony that reminds you of days long gone.

Alpen glory – epic colors dance across the picture in this piece captured and shared here by Frank King in the middle of winter in Alberta, Canada. The rugged snow-capped mountains create a perfect anchor for the brooding clouds that are the harbinger of a chinook, a weather phenomenon that the region is famous for.

Frosty winter vibes in Bavaria – this frame from Johannes Hulsch is dominated by sharp whites created by the thick blanket of snow that is found everywhere. In the backdrop, mountains covered in the snow reach for the skies, and in the foreground a still lake creates a strong reflection that adds to the composition rather nicely.
