Capturing images of humans is like capturing their souls and this is not something every photographer manages to get right. Portrait photography requires its own skills and there are many factors that need to be taken into account to get the image right.

Photographers take up portrait photography for a lot of reasons and this Serbian photographer makes dreamy portraits of models because there is something that attracts her towards their beautiful blue eyes.

Jovana Rikalo is a fine art and portrait photographer from Serbia, who loves to capture emotions and feelings in models outdoors, around breathtaking scenery. She had no interest in choosing photography as a profession until the Autumn of 2013. It was then that she finally realised how strongly she felt about the craft.

For Jovana, photography has become her greatest love and capturing emotions and milestones is now a big part of who she is. The whole idea of perfectly freezing special moments and feelings pushes her to take risks, get creative and learn as much as she can about the art of photo editing.

Jovana likes to create unreal situations in the real world and tell surreal stories with her camera.

When Jovana talks about her project, she says, “I am inspired by female models with unique facial expressions. While I was shooting a couple of models, I realised that blue eyes have a different story.
Blue eyes have become my main inspiration and I always say something different with those bright, vibrant, blue eyes like ocean blue. I shoot in natural light with my favourite camera Canon 5D Mark III and 85mm f/1.2 lens.

The lens in focus

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
