Sony Unveils the Ultimate Selfie Camera Smartphone

The smartphone wars just keep ramping up and now Sony has a response to the marquee headsets from Google and Apple.

As part of the CES hysteria ramping up, Sony thrilled smartphone fans and Instagram addicts with its announcement of a 23 megapixel headset that it dubs the “ultimate selfie” device.

The Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra features a dual front-facing camera and a rear 23-megapixel Exmor RS sensor, the highlight of the product in many eyes. Promising to give the Google Pixel 2 and iPhone X a run for their money in the spec department, the new Sony Xperia XA2 has a better resolution than even some entry level DSLR cameras.

The 23-megapixel camera insures that the pictures will be high in resolution and low in noise and quick to boot. Sony claims the camera can go from launch to photo in .6 seconds according to Digital Rev.

As for the touted selfie aspect, the two front-facing cameras are a 16-megapixel camera with Optical Image Stabilisation and a “Night Portrait” flash tailored for “blur free shots with natural-looking skin tones” while camera number 2 is an 8-megapixel resolution with a wide, 120 degree field of view.

The camera features a six inch full-HD Gorilla Glass for reviewing your captures and the device is capable of capturing ultra HD 4K resolution video and slow-motion captures at 120 frames per second.

The smartphone will have a large battery and even a monitoring function that can predict your battery life based on your phone’s usage pattern. There will be an optional quick charge unit that can power up your device in just a few minutes.

Sony is offering two storage options for the XA2 – a 32 GB or 64 GB option – and Micro SDXC card compatibility. No price was announced but the phone should be available at retail in February 2018.

The lens in focus

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
