A day filled new product announcements wouldn’t be complete without a couple of volleys from Fujifilm and the reveal of a new medium-format mirrorless “rangefinder-style” camera in the GFX 50R is hitting all of the right spots for some Fuji fanatics.

What DPReview accurately calls a variant of the GFX 50S with the rangefinder-style variant and marked differences in body style, weight, Bluetooth capabilities, and price points, naturally.
Using a 51.4MP medium-format sensor powered by an X Processor Pro, the GFX 50R features a 3.2″ LCD touchscreen and is equipped to handle dual SD cards compatible with UHS-II media. It is the first camera in Fuji’s GFX line to allow for Bluetooth connectivity.
Coming in at 145g, the GFX 50R does weigh less than the GFX 50S but will have all of the protections that model offers in terms of weather-proofing and protecting all of the sensitive stuff inside the unit body. The screen will employ a standard tilt mechanism instead of the 3-axis implementation on the GFX 50S. The screen replaces the four-way controller but the GFX 50R retains shutter speed and exposure compensation dials. The new medium-format mirrorless camera shares a battery with the GFX 50S.
A press release from Yuji Igarashi, the General Manager of the Electronic Imaging Division and Optical Devices Division of FUJIFILM North America Corporation, said: “We are very excited to further expand the GFX system with the introduction of a rangefinder-style medium format camera…The GFX 50R is a lighter and more compact model within the medium format mirrorless system, perfect for professional photographers who specialize in street, documentary or portrait photography.”
Slated for release this November, the GFX 50R comes in at a price of $USD 4,499. No word on pre-orders for the new GFX 50R medium-format mirrorless camera but we suspect they will start soon.
