Nokia Working on 5-Camera Beast?

If cameras were an arms race in the smartphone market then Nokia is ratcheting up the heat on its rivals that much more with a rumored 5-camera smartphone that the company is developing.

Long known for its rock-solid quality when it came to making mobile headsets, Nokia bowed out of the industry some time ago and is no longer the same old company we knew and loved.

That said, it doesn’t mean the modern incarnation isn’t capable of producing quality on par with the legendary models of Nokia’s past.

Now owned by HMD Global, Nokia’s smartphone is rumored to be in the works under the company’s “PureView” sub-brand, a label the company often used to distinguish its phones with high-end optical capabilities. DPReview is showing off a leaked image of the proposed Nokia smartphone that shows no less than five cameras on its front face. Keen eyes have also spotted the Android One and Zeiss logos on the leaked photo which apparently comes from a trial production run back in December 2017. There is also what appears to be an LED-based flash as well as an autofocus sensor.

DPReview speculates that, in addition to the main camera, the Nokia smartphone could also have “super-wide-angle, telephoto, black-and-white and depth-sensing modules.”

One thing is certain is that the trend towards adding multiple cameras to a smartphone doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon. Whenever and if it is released, the Nokie 5-camera smartphone will have more than enough competition in a market dominated by high-end brands that command huge sums of money at retail. Then again, that might be a major part of the reason why HMD Global is exploring the possibility of releasing a high-end, five camera Nokia smartphone. If the market is there then the company might be foolish to not take advantage of the opportunity.

The lens in focus

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
