NASA Provides Unreal Views from Space of the Massive Wildfires in California

The wildfires in California have left hundreds homeless and are the most devastating in the history of the state.

NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in the United States, is providing the world with stunning examples of just how widespread the devastation is.

The Camp Fire that is consuming vast parts of northern California has wiped out the town of Paradise and killed five people as of press, while, to the south, a forest fire near Malibu is forcing the evacuations of tons of people.

Video released on YouTube and elsewhere shows just how harrowing the events on the ground are. From fleeing towering infernos to brave firefighters combating walls of flame, the experiences of people on the ground are a true, living hell.

It becomes even more apparent when you realize just how many people are being impacted by these raging fires.

Luckily for the world, NASA’s Landsat 8 is delivering unbelievably detailed photographs that show the problem Californians are facing.

Not only are vast portions of the state consumed in smoke but also their jet streams pour into and over the Pacific Ocean itself. It’s a truly global event.

According to the most recent reports, the Camp Fire wildfire has consumed over 70,000 acres of land and is largely unchecked.

A dry season combined with low humidity and high winds have combined to produce a particularly deadly season of wildfires in California this year. And it has not left any population unaffected: Many reports have shown the impact on everyone from normal people to Hollywood superstars.

As Popular Science points out, California has suffered a marked increase in the number of wildfires over the past five years. Many people attribute this increase due to climate change and its effects on the environment. One thing is certain: The task faced by the firefighters in California is a massive and daunting one.

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
