Now Playing: The Tonight Show, Filmed on a Samsung Galaxy S10+

The competition among smartphone manufacturers is some of the fiercest on the planet.

And Samsung might have just kicked that competition up a notch with their latest stunt: A new episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon was filmed exclusively on a Samsung Galaxy S10+.

While it's not the first time a big-name Hollywood production has used a smartphone camera, it might be one of the more widely watched television shows out there to try using a smartphone to capture an episode.

But that’s not all that is different about this episode of The Tonight Show.

The episode will take an entirely different approach to its nightly show and will alter up the traditional format, naturally. If you were wondering how all of this would work out, it looks like the team behind The Tonight Show is using the smartphone in as natural a way as possible rather than try to use it to recreate studio-quality shots.

Instead of sit-downs with guests, the Samsung Galaxy S10+ version of The Tonight Show follows host Jimmy Fallon as he takes the audience with him to some of his favorite spots in New York City.

NBC describes the project on its website: ““Tonight” viewers will see Fallon, announcer Steve Higgins and house band The Roots dining at Rao’s; Fallon delivering meatballs to New York firefighters; and Fallon and The Roots visit New York jazz club The Django. Fallon will sing with Conor McGregor at New York Irish pub. He will also interview Michael Che at the Comedy Cellar and show comic Rachel Feinstein performing a set there. Fallon and The Roots will also be spotted crooning doo-wop against a New York City backdrop.”

As PetaPixel points out, the whole thing is part of a multimedia marketing effort on the part of NBC and Samsung.

The new Galaxy S10+ competes with products like the iPhone XS.

The lens in focus

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
