The inverse popularity curves of beer and film over time has not stopped Dogfish Head brewery from developing a beverage that is not only a tribute in name but actually capable of developing Kodak Super 8 film.
Called SuperEIGHT, the beer contains “prickly pear, mango, boysenberry, blackberry, raspberry, elderberry, kiwi juices and a touch of quinoa, along with an ample addition of Hawaiian sea salt” according to PetaPixel.

The idea for developing the beer came after Dogfish CEO Sam Calagione visited The Kodakery podcast and learned about how acidity and vitamin C in some beers can develop film.
Apparently, the brewery already had a beer in the works that might fit the bill, but Calagione went out of his way to make sure that the new product would be able to process Super 8 film.
And to make sure the product worked, Dogfish Head even sent over a test batch to Kodak.
After getting the A-ok from the company, a joint marketing effort was born.
Dogfish marketing about the beer reads in part, “From the can to the stop bath, there’s a whole lot of science and alternative processing that takes place to bring the imagery to life. And it’s so totally worth it.”
If you’re interested in picking up the beer, PetaPixel says it should be available later this month or next month. Apparently, it has a really unique red color and a tart taste.
Dogfish Head describes it as a, “…sessionable super gose is brewed with eight heroic ingredients: prickly pear, mango, boysenberry, blackberry, raspberry, elderberry, kiwi juices, toasted quinoa and an ample addition of red Hawaiian sea salt! Okay, so technically that's nine, but it ‘gose' without say that there's going to be salt. These unique ingredients give this beer a vibrant red color, with delicious flavors of berries and watermelon, along with a tart – yet refreshing – finish.”
