It seems like Samsung’s own version of Apple’s infamous “bendgate” is delaying the still-unreleased Galaxy Fold.
This is in response to numerous reports from reviewers that said their test models broke shortly after receipt – and sometimes irretrievably so.

We’re talking cracked screens and hinges not working the way Samsung promised.
All of that has resulted in the company delaying what was expected to be one of the biggest electronic product launches of the year.
Samsung said of the delay, “We want our customers to have the best experience possible which is why, after initial feedback, we have decided to delay the release of the category-changing Galaxy Fold to make sure it measures up to the high standards we know you expect from us…We plan to announce the [new] release date in the coming weeks.”
The company isn’t really committing to a definite timeline right now but analysts think that May makes a lot of sense. Apparently they’re taking one more look at the screen durability to make sure the launch units don’t have the issues the early testers faced with their Galaxy Folds.
As The Verge points out, some Samsung Galaxy Fold models broke because reviewers removed a protective screen that wasn’t supposed to be taken off. But others have just experienced your average, run-of-the-mill catastrophic failures involving the hinge mechanism. The Verge said in their review that debris had gotten in the hinge and the screen somehow and caused it to break.
The protective layer on the screen looks like a screen protector so Samsung is going on a campaign to educate buyers to not remove that screen from their phones.
“We will also enhance the guidance on care and use of the display including the protective layer so that our customers get the most out of their Galaxy Fold,” Samsung said.
