Leica SL2 Coming with IBIS and 187MP Photo Capabilities

Leica is making waves in the full-frame mirrorless market with today’s announcement of a new SL2 that replaces the original SL and comes equipped with in-body image stabilization and 187MP photo capabilities for a workhorse that everyone seems to be pretty excited about.

Rocking a 47MP full-frame CMOS sensor with an ISO range of 50-50000, the camera captures photos with what Leica calls amazing depth and clarity, thanks in part to the 14 bits per RGB channel.
The camera has 10fps and up to 20fps with the electronic shutter with the Maestro III image processor.
The IBIS gives you 5.5 stops of stabilization with SL lenses as well as M lenses according to PetaPixel. There’s a multishot mode that allows for 8 rapid fire frames with half-pixel sensor shifts distinguishing each from the other which can then be combined together into a 187MP ultra-high-res photo.
For video, the SL2 captures 4K at 60fps and full HD to 180fps. Leica said of the camera’s video capturing capabilities: “Activating Cine mode transforms the SL2 into a manually controlled cine camera. ISO becomes ASA, the shutter speed is marked in degrees on the rotary disk shutter, and the f-stops indicating the aperture ratio are replaced by T-stops, which measure the actual amount of light transmitted through the lens.”
In terms of design, the new Leica SL2 is more ergonomic over the 2015 model and has all of the conveniences one would expect a modern full-frame mirrorless to have such as HDMI connectors, two SD card slots, and a headphone jack.
Additionally, Leica has streamlined the user interface and delivered on user requests for a range of options concerning focus settings and customization such as getting rid of noise reduction for long-exposure shots.

The lens in focus

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
