We’ve had a ton of Canon and Fuji news this past week and it doesn’t look like the drip feed is going to stop anytime soon.
Now we’ve got even hotter rumors about potential future Canon products and this one says that we could be getting a cropped-sensor EOS R next year.
To shed light on the source of this rumor and what basis in reality it might have, we turned to none other than trusted website, Canon Rumors.
They report that their sources at Canon indicate that “such a camera is in active development at Canon, but likely won’t see the light of day until 2021.
More lenses in the RF lineup are a priority over an APS-C body we have been told, but that there definitely would not be ‘RF-S’ lenses developed for a smaller sensor EOS R camera body.”
Many people wondered when Canon might bring an upgrade or replacement for it EOS 7D Mark II and it looks like this 2021 model could be it.
As PetaPixel points out, this setup would allow Canon to keep the EOS M models as purely “entry level” products and reserve the RF models as pro-grade.
Also, such a product would be a natural response from the company to competitor Sony’s a6000 and Nikon’s Z50. Of course, none of this has stopped speculation about the future of the EOS M lineup entirely which many analysts think could go the way of disco any day now – especially given how companies are moving more decidedly into high-margin products.
