Canon Releases Update Repairing Lock-Up Issue with 1D X Mark III Camera

The Canon EOS 1D X Mark III had a bit of a lock-up issue that multiple users were reporting on forums and that we reported on here in this blog.

Canon promised a fix for that issue and it seems like it is here. And, as a bonus, the company is adding 24p recording in full HD and 4K in the bargain.

The updates per Canon’s support page:

“Firmware Version 1.1.0 incorporates the following enhancement and fixes:

1. The option to capture full HD movies and 4K UHD movies in 23.98p frame rate has been added.
2. The communication speed has been improved when connected via wired LAN.
3. The “Browser Remote” function has been added.
4. The function to transfer only protected images has been added.
5. Corrects the phenomenon in which, when the electronic level is set to “Show” in the viewfinder display, in rare cases, the camera may freeze when operating the AF-ON button or shutter button.
6. Corrects the phenomenon in which the Custom Shooting Mode settings may change when the shooting mode is switched.”

An amazingly capable camera, the lock-up issue was somewhat annoying for people who didn’t expect that kind of thing from a camera in this price range. But, Canon promised an update in early April, and here we are. It’s great when companies stick to their schedules and deliver on time – even though the current circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic would certainly allow for some slack in that department.

Do you own the Canon 1D X Mark III? Have you experienced the lock-up issue that other people have experienced? Let us know your experience in the comments below. We’d also love to know your thoughts on the camera and the story in general.

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
