$7,000 in Photography Equipment Stolen During Highway Robbery in San Francisco

Getting your photography equipment stolen is a tragedy; getting filmed while your photography equipment is being stolen as you are stuck in traffic in San Francisco is a viral tragedy.

If that sounds like one of the more outlandish robberies you’ve ever read about, you’re not the only one. And the unbelievable bits don’t end there. Honestly, if there wasn’t a video of the whole thing, we’d have a hard time believing any of this ourselves.

The robbers not only stole $USD 7,000 worth of camera gear while everyone was stuck in traffic, but they did so by smashing out the back window of the car and taking the bag carrying the photography equipment.

PetaPixel is reporting via ABC 7 that the victims of this robbery were a husband and wife real-estate photography duo, Ben and Masha, for Home Shots. The couple had finished a session in Dolores Park at 4:30 PM on Friday and were getting on to the Interstate 80 onramp when a car pulled up beside them, smashed out their back window, and stole the bag of gear. A driver behind the couple filmed the entire encounter that lasted less than 10 seconds, PetaPixel reports.

You can view the video here.

Ben told PetaPixel regarding his stolen gear, “It was my camera bag full of gears including a Nikon Z6, Nikon 14-30mm, DJI Mavic Air 2, DJI Ronin SC, Flashpoint speedlight, filters, memory cards, and some other small stuff.” The couple has set up a crowdfunding campaign as well.

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” — Unknown
